Not quite sure what you mean by unfair…
It’s not like they bag on the B.U.M.S. per se, but just put forth the attitude that reigned supreme about the west coast, especially the Bay area, back then (still).
All in all, seems par for the Source…
But I loved that album, still do.
Later I vaguely remember seeing an article, or at least some lyrics for a song I never heard in a magazine (can’t remember which) that was supposed to be for their second album. Any clue?

It’s unfair, because any rap rating system that grades on a scale of 1-5 and gives this album only 3 is frontin. This is back when ratings probably meant sales and back in the day if i saw this review in the source and saw that it only got three; well, it aint getting my allowance that week. That shit happened to me — alot. The review was even nice; last paragraph gave them dap. He should have gave it over 3.
It was also the time when the East Coast was all about repping it’s own coast and not really caring about the West Coast type of Hip Hop, you know the whole East Vs West dumb situation…that ended up with a LA artist dead (originally East Coast though) and one of New York’s finest, you know who I mean.
That album was easily worth a 4, I still rock it frequently.
First off…I just discovered this dope blog, so sorry about the old topic comment.
Anyhow…
As a huge supporter of west coast underground I can’t give this album a 4…It’s very deserving of that 3
Maybe if they put the Remix of “Take A Look Around” on the LP I can justify it.
