Long interview with a very overlooked producer, Todd Ray by Austin The Judge Wheeler. This low profile guy made classics for Lord Finesse, Artifacts, Cypress Hill (according to this interview at least !), Double X Posse, as well as Joe Burgos aka Fatal (another rapper whose album for WEA never came out…) Those unfamiliar with his music should also check the great http://www.canibringmygat.com/2007/07/12/t-ray/ for more mp3. I’m not really buying his story about discovering Nas though…
SluRg,
I do believe that he and MC Serch discovered Nas but who really knows?, T-Ray’s beats were always dope.
Do you have the remix of MC Thick’s ‘Bitch Rules’ please?
Thanks for this, I missed this issue of Elemental.
This reminds me, I have a three hour interview I did with Todd that I still need to drop…
Thanks supplying this link to the T-Ray post on CanIBringMyGat. Bless the press for writing the kind of in-depth articles blogs can’t.
Thanks for posting this – glad you liked it!
And to answer Slurg, T-Ray produced “I Ain’t Going Out Like That” for Cypress Hill (which was Cypress’ answer to Ice Cube’s “Wicked”) and I think he did “Hits from the Bong” as well. Plus he contributed his copy of the Grassela Oliphant LP so Muggs could sample it for “When the Shit Goes Down”- Judge
as far as T-Ray discovering Nas goes, unkut.com recently published a very similar interview with T-Ray (using the same artwork as well lol) wher he said something morelike Large Pro discovered Nas – seems like Extra P put half of Queens on – Mic Geronimo is his cousin as well lol !
No question. “Live at the Barbeque” was out before “Back to the Grill”, and that’s where T-ray, like most people, heard him first. I think T was just making the point that he was instrumental in getting him SIGNED (he pushed Serch to call Faith @ Columbia, etc.). -judge
THAT NAS STORY IS TRUE, MY MAN PERCEE P TOLD ME THAT SAME STORY….MAN I WISH THAT TRACK WOULD POP UP SOMEWHERE I LOVED TO HEAR IT..
Nothing seems to be easier than seeing someone whom you can help but not helping.
I suggest we start giving it a try. Give love to the ones that need it.
God will appreciate it.
